Breathwork Exercises
Breathwork sounds like an ethereal new age practice, but learning to breathe
properly in stressful situations is one of the most effective ways to jumpstart
de-escalation and restoring calm and presence to your body and mind.
There are various areas of breathwork including Holotropic Breathwork,
Box Breathing Techniques, Wim Hof Method, and methods that align with the
practice of yoga. Breathwork has been shown in peer-reviewed studies to
reduce anxiety and stress by engaging the parasympathetic nervous system
and can lead to reduced feelings of panic and anxiety. Practitioners of breathwork
caution against the practice of breathwork if you have epilepsy, severe asthma,
cardiovascular conditions, history of profound trauma, or pregnancy.
